Endorsed by Yoko Ono for his latest John Lennon print

Russell Marshall’s work celebrates stars who are “really stars”

Artist, Russell Marshall produces art prints of some of today’s most iconic faces. Yoko Ono Lennon has recently endorsed his latest John Lennon edition.

An award winning national journalist, designer and art director, turned artist; Russell Marshall’s work reflects his 25 years in the British tabloid industry.

Russell Marshall’s use of colour, his production techniques and choice of images stem from the “golden days of the red-top press…when stars were really stars, when news was really news and when the best pictures and the best stories made the front pages. Iconic images that deserve to be seen again, bold CMYK colours that leap off the page, plus the odd cheeky one liner to make you smile

Russell Marshall’s art work is part of the new, mixed exhibition now on at Turner | Barnes | Gallery: ESSEXHIBITON, an Urban Art exhibition with a hint of sassiness.

‘Kate Multiple-Blue on Pearl’ beautiful art silkscreen is part of Russell Marshall’s “40”; a retrospective exhibition of Kate Moss, celebrating one of the most photographed icons of our times, to coincide with her 40th birthday. It featured ten photographs spanning her career, and we were reminded of Kate Moss newly emerging into the fashion industry to her present day career heights.

This show combined art with Marshall’s journalistic perspective in also using quotations to give insight into the pieces and the enigmatic icon.

“‘Celebrity’ can be short-lived these days, but not so with Kate,” Russell Marshall told The Telegraph. “While other celebs have come and gone, Kate has stayed. Kate’s not just a survivor and she’s not hanging on to fame. She grows bigger, brighter and more iconic each year.”

‘Lennon 1974’ is a stunning 2 colour Limited Edition Screen Print, from urban artist Russell Marshall.

In honour of John Lennon’s 75th birthday,  artist and master of screen-printing, Russell Marshall produced a limited edition screen print endorsed by Yoko Ono Lennon and photographer, Bob Gruen. The print was released on what would have been Lennon’s 75th birthday on 9th October, and is available to buy at Turner | Barnes | Gallery. Beatle fans and Lennon lovers alike will love this piece of art to celebrate the life of the iconic musician.

Through his art, Russell Marshall celebrates one of music and culture’s most highly regarded icons.  Via the delicate art of Silkscreen printing, particularly at such a large size, Marshall brings the famous image of Lennon to the art world, in a fantastic colourway of blue on pearl. As much a research process as it is an artistic printing process, Russell Marshall sought and agreed permission to use the image from both the legendary photographer who took the image in 1969, Bob Gruen and Yoko Ono Lennon via the John Lennon Foundation.

This gorgeous art print is signed and numbered by the artist & is from an edition of 25.

To accompany the Lennon print, titled ‘Lennon 1974’, and explain its history, a short film has also been made: https://vimeo.com/140438538
