Over her face, Gjoen has scrawled childish clown features in black ink. At once comical and unsettling, ‘I’d Rather be Happy Than Dignified’ is a modern day homage to Duchamp’s Mona Lisa, capturing all the irony and art-world wit, and finished a little of Gjoen’s own style, in the beautifully textured background of gold leaf on lime green.
