Louise’s paintings are predominately large scale, often creating texture with the oil, before applying many layers of translucent oil glazes. She often use metallic pigment in the under layers giving the illusion of the light dancing as it moves around the painting.
Her interest is in the solitude and isolation of remote extreme scenery and attempting to capture the mysterious mercurial nature of the light on the land and the sea.
“I grew up in the Peak District with many months of every year spent in Ireland where the rest of my family are based. The two landscapes have influenced my paintings every since, the extreme remote scenery of the moors in the Peak District and the mountains, lakes and coast of Ireland. This particular series of paintings are influenced by the exquisite and ephemeral first and last light and their reflections that are cast over the mountains in County Mayo, Ireland.” LOUISE FAIRCHILD
