Louise’s paintings are predominately large scale, often creating texture with the oil, before applying many layers of translucent oil glazes. She often use metallic pigment in the under layers giving the illusion of the light dancing as it moves around the painting.
Her interest is in the solitude and isolation of remote extreme scenery and attempting to capture the mysterious mercurial nature of the light on the land and the sea.
“I live moments from the River Thames, near Kingston and Hampton Court. My daily walk along that stretch of river with my Jack Russell, in all weathers, and often at dusk or first light are influencing my work more and more. The scene I’ve witnessed a thousand times but I never tire of it.” LOUISE FAIRCHILD
