Abstract Artist Allan Storer

“Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.” Erich Fromm

Allan Storer paints in Cornwall, London and Wales. His work embraces abstract and figurative styles. Allan Storer paints in thick impasto oil, on large canvases with palette knives and squeegees.

“the power and texture of oil paint applied with a palette knife or squeegee, dictates I loosen up and chance plays a significant role” – Allan Storer

Consistent with his postgraduate studies in psychology and surrealism, his consequent therapeutic work in the mental health and education professions, Storer’s working methodology is a faith in the artistic principle of creativity, as a fundamental coping device for healthy everyday living.

The impasto palette knifed works of Sir Kyffin Williams and the squeegee paintings of Gerhard Richter influence Storer’s work. In particular Richter’s polemic that “almost every work of art is an analogy” appeals to his sense of what it is to be human.

“Art is making sense and giving shape to that sense. It is like the religious search for God.” Gerhard Richter

“Storer’s paintings are fluent, dynamic and exciting, resulting from a working method that is arduous, challenging and energetic.” Charles Aston

‘Passive Prose’ is an Original oil painting  on canvas by abstract artist, Allan Storer.

The main body of the composition for each piece of art is made using the squeegee technique. A process that demands an enormous amount of energy.  Often forming a vacuum between the paint and canvas surface. Allan Storer then applies multiple layers of paint on top of the initial underpainting, which he then peels off and deeply gouges simultaneously to create the texture and rough edges.
“I work to create harmony with an element of chance.” – Allan Storer
