‘Back to Black’ & ‘Abyss’ Are part of the same series of unconventional portraits.  An experimental piece, where the subject is actually laying down in a bath full of black liquid.

‘Oh My Ears And Whiskers, How Late It’s Getting’

“When I was 16 my Grandad passed away. Ever since that day, I became more aware of Time… how we all have a certain amount of Time, as well as those around us. It scared me and it still does. I had just finished my GCSE’s and I felt that horrible pressure of everyone expecting me to know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I needed to decide now, the teachers would say. Because Time is tick tick ticking away!

I think that worry mainly comes from education and society, as my parents were always very supportive and always told me to stop worrying.

When I finally decided that I was going to be a photographer, I wanted to be the best that I could. I put so much pressure on myself to reach certain milestones by a certain age, all because I thought time was slipping away from me. I told myself that I needed to work quickly, to work hard, so I could move out whilst I was still young enough to experience life, to meet someone and settle down.. all the while finding the time to fit in babies before I got too old, but just at the right time so I could still have a successful career, yet *STILL* early enough so my parents could one day be great grandparents.

I turned 25 three weeks ago.

Now I feel old! I feel the pressure to do incredible things with my career before I am 30. Time is slipping away.

I often think about my own mortality and that of my family, especially my parents. Am I the only one? I don’t know why I think about it so much. Time is an enemy I can not defeat and can not deter. I just feel like we are in a battle every day.

But sometimes, I sit and I think… time is not our enemy. Time is a gift. The more we worry about how we use it, the more Time we waste. So although Time seems to take a lot from us, I think sometimes we need to think what Time has given us instead.” – Linda Blacker

Where Darkness Falls…Light Will Follow

Photographed in Snowdonia, September 2014.

This shoot consists of 5 characters – The Darkness, Hope, Forgiveness, Love and Joy. This is a symbolic and metaphorical series of images which expresses the violence, hatred and pain we see throughout the world. The Darkness represents this, as it pursues to wipe out Love, Joy, Forgiveness and Hope. The Darkness is in purple, Love is red, Forgiveness is white and blue, Joy is yellow and Hope is gold. The Darkness chases and pushes to breaking point Forgiveness and Joy, and scares and pursues Love far away. It is Hope that defeats The Darkness, symbolising that as long as their is Hope, the human race can carry on and continue to believe that one day, we will be at peace.

” I directed, styled, photographed, edited and organised this series of images. I just had one model and a make up artist with me. I hope you like this series.” Linda Blacker

Tainted I, II, III

‘Tainted’ is a series of three images. Each image metaphorically displays ‘Tainted Love’. This series was designed to express Linda’s thoughts on how one can fall in love with a person’s beauty, but that individual can later reveal themselves to be poisonous and ugly within. The roses symbolise how a beautiful flower, when touched, can prick you with its thorns, representing what can happen when you involve yourself with someone who only later reveals their true nature.

The backdrop was built by Linda for the photo shoot, and stood at 2 meters by 3 meters. Linda painted and glued over 40 old books to this backdrop to create the perfect setting for this piece.

The Abstract Being I, II, III

This photo series tells the story of a magical woman; whose only worry is her appearance. As life goes on, she starts to notice it shows upon her face. Lines begin to appear and her hair turns grey. The woman is nothing but distraught. She runs away from everyone she knows, and hides herself far away from civilisation. It is there that she immerses herself into dark magic, and turns herself into a figure no longer recognisable as human. The woman turned herself into an artwork. An abstract being of shapes and tones. The Abstract being lived out the remainder of her life alone, but she did not care, for art is immortal and so her beauty would never die.

Queen of the Night, is a character from the same story as Queen of The Damned. This creature is the weakest of the Vampires in the mortal world. It is also one of Linda’s darkest pieces. She kills her human victims with speed, not strength, and flees the threat of other vampires through morphing into a swarm of Vampire Bats to take flight when situations become dangerous. However she has the darkest power of all the Vampires. The Queen of Lost Souls gets her name by peeling the flesh from her human victims bones, pouring her black blood over their skull – in turn taking control of the victims soul in the afterlife. In death, this Vampire has an army of Lost Souls

‘Sky God’ is an image that expresses escapism in a metaphorical sense. The photograph dictates quite literally, a Sky God creating her own world in the sky. A world that she wanted, where everything is as she wishes it to be.

Everything in this piece is real, from the Hot Air Balloon ornament, to the toy stuffing as clouds! The ‘Sky God’ is a female model painted white from head to toe. The only think that is not real are the tiny birds created in post production by Linda!

‘Give Me Love’ is one of Linda Blacker’s first Fine Art Photographs. This piece took inspiration from the classic tale, Romeo & Juliet. The young boy and girl fall in love. The boy is in an accident, and the girl believes him to be dead. Inconsolable, the girl runs from her family and takes her own life. She awakes in the after-life and wanders the land to find her love, unaware that he never died and still lives in the land of the living.

‘Finding Neverland’

‘Finding Neverland’ is still one of Blacker’s favourite shots of her career so far. Shot in her studio, before it was painted and complete, this piece conveys the wonders of a novel or story. How one can find themselves drawn into a whole new world, simply by reading the words from the pages of a book they hold in their hands. The fairy in this image is created using the models shadow, and the ship is created using a wooden ship and a projector, not post production!

‘Seven Seas’ tells the tale of the Sea God, a follow up piece to the Sky God. The Sea God lives beneath the Sky God and rules the seven seas. They live in harmony, but have been known to clash over the Moon God, a character revealed in another of Linda’s pieces.

As with the Sky God and all of Linda’s images, everything in this piece is real. From the model painted blue, the wooden ship, an ornament that sits in Linda’s studio and the small dolphin ornaments.

‘Dolly’ is one of Linda’s most popular images on her social media. Linda wanted to create a living doll. Having seen this concept re-imagined by many artists, she wanted to bring a different style to the mix. By in cooperating a more magical element than fashion, Linda’s Dolly picture brings a different side to this concept which fits perfectly within Linda Blacker’s world of creations so far.

Alternative Alice – Queen of Diamonds

Linda has been inspired by the stories of Alice in Wonderland since she first started photography. In 2015, Linda had a month of creating imagery under the theme, Alternative Alice. Linda created two photo series under this theme, one of them being the ‘Queen of Diamonds’. In the image you can see the Queen crushing a heart in her hands, because she wishes to kill the Queen of Hearts. Tired of the Queen of Hearts having all the glory, she hatches a plan to end her reign once and for all!

Queen of The Damned I & II

Currently Linda’s favourite photo series she has taken to date, ‘Queen of The Damned I & II’ is a series primarily made up from tones of white and shades of red. This series shows the Queen of the Vampire race, drinking human blood from a cup, which in turn turns the human whose blood she is drinking into a vampire. This series has a deeper meaning to Linda, but she has not revealed the meaning for she wants those who view it to have their own reaction to such a striking series.
