Lyrical & Linear

A solo Exhibition by London based artist Judith Brenner

Turner Barnes Gallery are exhibiting a collection of abstract paintings together with Fugitive works on paper by Judith Brenner throughout September and October in the Essex based galleries, Shenfield and Chelmsford.
Judith Brenner has been working as an independent artist for many years, after a break to have her family she has returned in the last few years with a vibrant textural collection of abstracts that respond visually to her environments and life experiences. Empowered by the temporal nature of the raw material terrain, the paintings evolve continuously – her use of rusting metal powders allows her paintings to mirror the ebb and flow of the dynamic landscape.
Onto the Figurative works, made up of free-flowing paint marks that form an abstract figure, her use of colour breaks away from a traditional figurative painting, as she incorporates gorgeous blues & pinks that result in a very contemporary conclusion.
This is not the end to her talents, following in the footsteps of great artists such as David Hockney, Judith Brenner has embraced the world of technology and created amazing artworks on the iPad. Look carefully at these editions and see the strokes drawn by a stylus, capturing energy & immediacy.
The recent body of work is related to journeys to Cornwall. In the Summer of 2017 after working in the gardens at Falmouth School of Art, her drawings and paintings took on a lyrical and linear quality. With this opportunity to have a studio right on the seafront, Judith spent her days working on the beach using seaweed and the large stones to paint around which resulted in the sand becoming part of paintings.
Last year Judith Brenner took part in Newlyn School of Art’s mentoring scheme, this is now pushing her practice beyond her usual boundaries.
