Natasha Barnes is a self-taught fine artist from South Africa. Her natural talent and pure passion for painting has led Natasha Barnes to develop a profound style reflective of expressionism.
The artist’s dynamic marriage of colour and texture, created via sophisticated mark making, evokes a sense of fluidity, movement and thoughts of a ‘journey’ in every piece.
Natasha Barnes’s lavish, vibrant abstract paintings are inspired by her travels, absorbing the moments and transferring her feelings back onto the canvas, with bright, bold colour.
Every painting is a mood, a reflection of what is happening in her mind. Some days are quiet but every day is a painting, a whole new way of looking at the world.
Throughout her life, she has enjoyed painting as a hobby but it was during her years in the cooking industry, that she started exhibiting at local art shows and small private exhibitions, such as Art in the Park, held annually in Pietermaritzburg. It was at these small exhibitions that she started receiving recognition and praise for her work and so decided to pursue art as her career and as the main focal point in her life.
Her inspirations stem from her travels and the love for the rich images surrounding her life, being absorbed in the mind and transferred to the canvas without direct observation. Natasha paints in water based mediums. Application is thick and sometimes textured. Her subject dictates the flow of the paint and with that forms take on an element of the unreal, moving into the world of abstraction.
Her work can be found in corporate and private collections throughout the world and has been exhibited extensively in the UK, America and the Middle East. Exploring new ideas and experimenting with creative thought ensures that her paintings grow with her passion to enjoy a long and fruitful career.
