Dean & James’ work combines traditional fine art with contemporary techniques. Dean Fox’s traditional oil painting style and James Rawson’s charcoal elements work brilliantly together to bring a minimalist and earthy quality to the classical themes set behind the charcoal.
Dean & James’ work is called “Elemental Artwork” and their first collection ‘Samsara’ originates from Sanskrit, representing circuitous change in relation to the cycle of life and death in which the material world is bound.
Dean & James use raw charcoal in their collaborative work, the oldest known medium in the world of art which was first used in cave drawings. The classical themes used in the artwork are reinterpreted into a contemporary style, imbued with spiritual connotations and dualities of light and dark, beauty and the abhorrent, objectivity and emptiness.
