He graduated from Brighton Polytechnic in 1988 and was immediately immersed for some years in music, both recording and touring, which involved a large amount of travel. This experience with all its attendant colour and adventure informs much of the artist’s work later in life, the immediacy of performing having given way to a far more contemplative and deeper method of expression. Ever present sketch books filled during these travels provided the initial impetus for the past seventeen years of oil on canvas work. The work describes a search for mystery, movement, warmth, balance. An emotional response, whether dramatic or perhaps even slightly intangible, is perennially asked of the viewer.
